Please Don't Loop
A short film exploring the border between character performance and body mechanics
Please Don’t Loop is a short animated film exploring the border between body mechanics and character performance, and what it takes to cross it. The film follows a leopard working through his walk cycle, gradually becoming more agitated the longer the “audience” keeps watching him.
The purpose of this production was to examine the point at which animation moves beyond pure mechanics and begins to feel like character. My findings suggest that this is not a clear switch, but a gradual transition. Even in the most technical body mechanics, the animator’s personality, choices, and sense of performance will peek through in some regard.
